We will establish a steering group for the project, working with our partners to include parents from each of the venues’ local communities. The steering group and creative team will meet monthly to review progress and plan next steps. Some members of the steering group will also act as paid ambassadors, supporting our audience development work with local families and joining us at partner meetings. For the exhibition and live events, we will recruit and train a front of house team from each locality, including community leaders in each area to ensure families feel welcome when they first arrive. They will…
The director and choreographer have worked together previously but we will be auditioning dancers and a musician for the project and it’s really important to us that everyone feels safe and supported in the working environment. As we will be auditioning trans, non-binary and genderqueer dancers we want to make sure the call out, audition process and venues are open and welcoming to everyone. We will put several things in place including: a training session for the whole team, venue staff training and briefings, careful venue selection and looking at toilets, dressing rooms etc and make sure basics are in place such as including pronouns when we introduce ourselves. Also, the topics we’re talking about in the development and performance are sensitive and emotional and so we will create ground rules together and have budgeted for a support worker/ counselling to…
As the project is for young carers and their wider families, we have ensured that the team includes people at different stages of their life/ career, including recent graduates and we are offering a work experience placement for a digital producer which will be for someone 16-18 years old. I will also draw on my own experience as a young carer when delivering the project and work closely with Devonshire YCA. Whilst the core project team is already confirmed, through the work placement and a freelance role for an illustrator we will offer two open opportunities. We will support accessibility for these roles and the core team and have included a dedicated access pot in the budget. This will be used to…
I have lived in the community for 11 years which means I know it really well and know the people I want to engage with this project. People have told me that this is a strength as we are part of the community and so they trust us. This project also means I can work with a second workshop leader. I will encourage applications from local residents but I know that there are many barriers when applying for jobs, so to keep this opportunity open and accessible I will:
1. create a simple recruitment process which focuses on skills and does not make formal qualifications a requirement (as this often disadvantages underrepresented groups)
2. encourage applicants to apply for the positions in any format that they are comfortable with, e.g. audio, video, or written
3. Promote flexible working to fit around family commitments…
